Johnny started singing back in grade school and was involved in the choir throughout high school and college. While pursuing his business degree from Penn State at age 19, he began training with vocal coach, Professor Lillian Coury. In 1995, Johnny wrote a few songs and went into the recording studio to produce a cassette single entitled 'First Things First' that was available for purchase at National Record Mart in Monroeville. The songs, Into The Light and Here With Me, received a total of 8 months airplay on 96.9 WRRK.

During 2003, Johnny placed in the top 3 out of 22 singers in the StarQuest TV Challenge singing competition that was televised on WBGN, he made it to the semi-finals of Star 100.7's All Star Idol competition, and he also received airplay on Pittsburgh's own 102.5 WDVE!

Over the years, Johnny has performed with an original act, Quick Spin, and several cover bands - Trauma, Sister For Sale and currently, Mailman's Kid.
